In this class we will cover the basics of how to prune established fruit trees. We will discuss the difference between heading and thinning, how to make a correct cut, and what responses are triggered within the tree by those cuts. We’ll learn to recognize vegetative and fruiting wood. We’ll gain an understanding of how to develop and maintain productive structures. We will also discuss pruning as it relates to disease prevention/control. By the end of this class, you should have a solid understanding what cut to make where in order to encourage the tree to grow the way you’d like it to.
